RTO = Recovery time objective. "The maximum tolerable length of time that a computer, system, network or application can be down after a failure or disaster occurs." The answer is A.
Comptia can really go to hell with such heavy usage of acronims, I was thinking about Real Time Operations. If they just used full name, this wouldn't be a problem.
Yeah I'm not really a fan of how this test is just a glorified vocabulary test. Gets old when you forget a couple and just have no clue how to answer a question. Thank goodness for these resources.
I think choosing A is missing the point: why is it an element of BIA?
It is an element of BIA because it helps to identify the risk of a critical function having a high RTO. If RTO is high for a critical function, the business runs the risk of financial and reputational loss. Option A is just defining RTO but not stating why a BIA has to consider it (its effect on a business)
RTO is incorrect, but it's the best answer.
RTO: A drive fails, it'll take two hours to restore it to operation.
RPO: A drive fails. You'll have backups going back 24 hours.
I believe the answer is B. The RTO does not define the amount of allowable downtime for an application or system. This is the MAO's (maximum acceptable outage) function. While the MAO helps to determine the RTO, the RTO (recovery time objective) is not exclusively determined based on this factor. The RTO's main function is to advise the organization on prioritizing risks, so that it can allocate resources appropriately. The answer is B.
A recovery time objective (RTO) identifies the maximum
amount of time it can take to restore a system after an outage. It is directly
related to the maximum acceptable outage time defined in a business impact
analysis (BIA)
The Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is the maximum amount of time allowed for the recovery of a business process or system after a disruption occurs. It is an essential component of a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) because it helps to determine the criticality of various systems and applications within an organization. By understanding the RTO for each system, an organization can prioritize its recovery efforts and allocate resources appropriately to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of operations.
A is right. A bia (business impact analysis) is part of a desaster recovery plan (drp) and documents the costs (not only monetary) of business/service interruptions/failures. A bia is important for the desaster recovery strategy and documents RTO and RPO among other things.
