Bridges have the same ability, but they used coax cables and they are considered legacy devices. They could understand MAC addresses, but they supported only up to 4 ports. They were mostly used for segmenting networks to reduce collisions caused by hubs. Switches are modern bridges. They use ethernet and they can support up to 48 ports.
