Selected Answer: C
C. Network address translation (NAT): This is required to translate the private IP addresses of the devices connected to the router to a public IP address that can be used to communicate with the internet. Without NAT, devices on the private network would not be able to communicate with the internet. A. Tunneling: This is a technique used to encapsulate one network protocol within another, but it is not necessary for basic internet connectivity. B. Multicast routing: This is used to enable multicast traffic to be routed through a network, but it is not required for basic internet connectivity. D. Router advertisement: This is a feature used in IPv6 networks to automatically configure devices with network addresses, but it is not required for basic internet connectivity.

GPT picks (C): "The technician needs to configure (C) Network Address Translation (NAT). Network Address Translation (NAT) is a technique used to allow multiple devices on a local network to share a single public IP address for accessing the internet. When users connected to the new router are unable to access the internet, it often indicates that NAT is not properly configured. NAT ensures that internal private IP addresses are translated to the single public IP address of the router when traffic goes out to the internet, and the corresponding translation is done when traffic returns. Options (A) Tunneling, (B) Multicast routing, and (D) Router advertisement are not directly related to the issue of users not being able to connect to the internet through the new router."

Selected Answer: C
C. Network address translation (NAT) In order for the users connected to the new router to connect to the Internet, the technician needs to configure Network Address Translation (NAT) on the router. NAT allows multiple devices on a private network to share a single public IP address and access the Internet. Without NAT, the private IP addresses assigned to the users' devices would not be able to communicate with the public IP addresses on the Internet.

Answer is C: Network Address Translation (NAT) is a service that operates on a router or edge platform to connect private networks to public networks like the internet. NAT is often implemented at the WAN edge router to enable internet access in core, campus, branch, and colocation sites.

I don’t understand how you are “allowing access” without having already taken care off NAT. I would think it’s router advertisement. But if someone could kindly elaborate on the reasoning, it would be appreciated.

Sure. It couldn't be router advertisement because the users are already connected to the router. If it was a problem with router advertisement then the users shouldn't be able to connect to the router, which eliminates Router Advertisement as an answer. Since the users are having trouble connecting the Internet, that means there is an issue at level 3 of the OSI stack. Network issues means that there is a problem with Network Address Translation
