B: A Layer3 switch. Please keep in mind a router is not used for connecting endpoints as the questions states. A router usually has up to 10 ethernet ports, while a switch has much more.

A multilayer switch, or layer 3 switch allows you to connect ports to endpoints & can also perform routing functions.

Also, it stated that the device "has the ability to route between networks". Router can route by default, therefore, its referring to a Layer 3 Switch since its a Switch that has ability to route traffic.

Selected Answer: C
A router is a networking device that provides access ports to endpoints, such as computers, servers, printers, and other network-enabled devices. It has the ability to route traffic between different networks, allowing devices on one network to communicate with devices on another network. Routers typically operate at the network layer (Layer 3) of the OSI model and use IP addresses to forward packets between networks. They are commonly used in home and business networks to connect to the Internet and other networks. Routers can be standalone devices or integrated into other networking equipment, such as switches or modems. They often include features such as firewall protection, Quality of Service (QoS) controls, and Virtual Private Network (VPN) support.

Not the answer they are looking for. An access port is not what you have in a router (not the "router" you got from the ISP)

Could someone explain why this wouldn't be a router?

Later 3 switch provides both switchport access to endpoints and routing functions.

An OSI model Layer 2 switch cannot perform routing functions. However, an OSI model Layer 3 switch is capable of processing Layer 3 data and can function as a router. Layer 3 switches are generally more cost effective to use compared to using a Layer 2 switch + a separate router.
