A technician is replacing a broken screen on a new company laptop but does not have repair information from the vendor. Which of the following is the BEST way to proceed?
A.
Document and label the cable and screw locations.
B.
Replace the screen with a non-OEM.
C.
Update the firmware on the device before repairing it.
D.
Wait for the vendor to provide more information.
So why isn't the answer D, wait for the vendor to send documentation? Surely in a risk adverse setting such as CompTIA this would be the correct answer...

Documenting where things go is VERY important and nothing slows you down like needing to find a special screw after taking apart a laptop. That being said, don't discount the value in waiting for a vendor. While people often want quick solutions, some laptops have unique cords or cables attached. They may have plastic clips or non-universal designs. Breaking some of these small pieces is often painful, hard to replace, and expensive. Caution is the best answer if you are unfamiliar with a laptop design. By all means, ALWAYS document, but be aware that foreign design elements can be broken when pulling off a piece of case. It's usually most common with circuit cables that are connected in a place you wouldn't expect.
I would suggest to wait for vendor to see if it can be replaced , since it is a screen on new laptop, I suppose it is still on warranty, and you DO NOT want to void the warranty by doing something stupid.
Definitely document acrew locations! I ince troed to replace the compass in my drone…after 2 hours of taking it apart I replaced the compass, but was never able to put it back together. The repair only works if you can put everything back!
The laptop is new and still could be under warranty. It's best to wait for more information on how to proceed. Information could be more than just how to replace the screen. The answer is D
The answer is A. Fixing a cracked laptop is a pretty common task. You should instead disassemble the laptop and document all screws, cables, and connector locations to make sure you reconnect everything properly
I would say choose answer (A), since you are already doing something while you wait for a special vendor to assist you and it may take awhile. So choice (A) would be the most logical answer.
