LAN is for internal and MAN connects several buildings. A big campus or company in a city may operate a MAN. The 1GB speed is what helps narrow these answers down and know they are probably wired connections although with upcoming technology. That could change!

And isnt MAN “metropolitan area network”? Thats usually a small ISP operating within a city, not a provate network setup.

There are no rules saying there isn't exceptions or others that use it. It would apply to something of this scope.

1GB is 1 gigaBYTE, aka 8 gigaBITS. 1Gb or 1gbps is one gigabit.
