SIMULATION - Given the following line from /etc/nsswitch.conf: hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4 By default, which file will be queried first for hostname lookups? (Specify the full name of the file, including path.)
The /etc/hosts file is used as a local database for associating host names with IP addresses. This file is read before DNS queries are made to a remote DNS server. The entries in this file are used to resolve hostnames to IP addresses for systems on a local network. This is particularly useful for testing and debugging, or for systems that do not have access to a DNS server. The file is also used as a fallback mechanism in case the remote DNS server is unavailable. The file has the following format:
IP_address hostname [aliases...]
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.0.2 example.com example
