Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) uses Encapsulation Security Payload (ESP), Authentication Header (AH), and Internet Key Exchange (IKE) to secure communication between virtual private network (VPN) end points by authenticating and encrypting each IP packet of a communication session.
Transport Mode - In the transport mode (also ESP), IPsec encrypts only the payload of the IP packet, leaving the header untouched. It authenticates two connected computers and provides the option of encrypting data transfer. (P.1464/1448)
