I'm not sure there IS a correct answer to this question! authenticationType is only used for routing connections to other services. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/templates/microsoft.devices/iothubs?pivots=deployment-language-bicep#sharedaccesssignatureauthorizationrule min TLS version 1.2 still allows the smaller keys IoT Hubs that are configured to accept only TLS 1.2 will also enforce the use of the following recommended cipher suites: TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA256 TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA384 https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/iot-hub/iot-hub-tls-support
