It has to be added to the forest as it says. So I think that it is not a child domain, even with the parentdomain parameter

Coleman: can you explain your opinion? we have contoso as -Parentdomain parameter so contoso is the parent of Fabrikam for me Fabrikam is the child domain the answer is not correct.

its not a child domain though. Its fabrikam.com A tree domain is not a child domain. Probably the code in the answer is incorrect.

Pretty sure you have to have a parent domain before you can have child domains spring forth from it.
