You plan to use Azure Site Recovery to protect several on-premises physical server workloads. Each server workload is independent of the other. The workloads are stateless.
You need to recommend a failover strategy to ensure that if the on-premises data center fails, the workloads are available in Azure as quickly as possible.
Which failover strategy should you include in the recommendation?

INDEPENDENT VMs ================= Latest - Low RPO (may not app-consistent) Latest Processed - Low RTO Latest app-consistent - app-consistent, DEPENDENT VMs =============== Latest multi-VM processed - same as Latest Processed Latest multi-VM app-consistent - same as Latest app-consistent

Latest processed:::: Use this option to fail over VMs to the latest recovery point already processed by Site Recovery. You can see the latest processed recovery point in the VM Latest Recovery Points. This option provides a low RTO as no time is spent to processing the unprocessed data

Requirements: - Each server workload is independent of the other - Workloads are stateless - Failover as quickly as possible A. Latest > Provides the lowest RPO B. Latest app-consistent > There are no hints, that app-consistent recovery points have been enabled. So I guess it can be ruled out. C. Latest multi-VM processed > The requirements say "workloads are independent of each other". Also there is no hint that multi-VM consistency got enabled. I guess this can be ruled out D. Latest processed > Provdes a low RTO because no time is spent processing unprocessed data Conclusion: > As the workloads are stateless, there is no need to waste time on recovering the exact state of the VM. So answer D) is sufficient and should be even faster than A)

A (Latest) has the lowest RPO (as you mentioned), but also would not be processing any data either because the app is stateless. Seems like the correct answer is "A."

Self correcting a bit.... Looking further, it might be trying to trip you up. I could read that as multiple VMs in which case the correct answer would be "Latest multi-VM Processed". If it's a single VM, then the answer would be "Latest Processed" It would not be "Latest" as i initially thought because, Site Recovery will first create a recovery point and then do the fail over. Because these are stateless, there is no need. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-test-failover-to-azure

the right answer is "latest processed" please read the link below: "Please note that when the source region goes down, there is no more log processing possible. So, you will have to failover to Latest Processed recovery point. See the next point to understand more." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-failover#run-a-failover

RTO is how quickly the applications will be online in the secondary site, and RPO is how much data loss would occur in the event of a failover. So based on the requirement, Latest Processed is correct as it has low RTO.

Even though I would lean towards D ie latest processed owing to "Statelessness and lowest RTO (ie the workloads are available in Azure as quickly as possible)". For D to work, following assumption has to be made for which there is no clarity in the question: There had not been any updates (apps, OS, data, other binaries) to the VM after the "latest processed".

STATELESS and FASTEST are the major key here. I think the correct answer is A.

Answer is correct: Note that as per this link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-failover Please note that when the source region goes down, there is no more log processing possible. So, you will have to failover to Latest Processed recovery point. See the next point to understand more. And this is exactly the scenario mention here

Latest provides the lowest RPO, but since the question said fastest time, then Latest Processed would be best, as it has the lowest RTO which is Recovery Time Objective.

Given answer is correct. TRO= how quickly you want your data back? RTO= how much data you afford loosing.

Answer D is correct, The question is really asking for shorted RTO, which is provided by option D. Latest processed: Use this option to fail over VMs to the latest recovery point already processed by Site Recovery. You can see the latest processed recovery point in the VM Latest Recovery Points. This option provides a low RTO as no time is spent to processing the unprocessed data

Latest - the lowest RPO, the app is STATELESS - no other option would make sense because it's STATELESS - no data can be lost because there is no STATE.
