HOTSPOT -
You create a virtual machine scale set named Scale1. Scale1 is configured as shown in the following exhibit.

Use the drop-down menus to select the answer choice that completes each statement based on the information presented in the graphic.
NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.
Hot Area:

Suggested Answer:
Box 1:
The Autoscale scale out rule increases the number of VMs by 2 if the CPU threshold is 80% or higher. The initial instance count is 4 and rises to 6 when the 2 extra instances of VMs are added.
Box 2:
The Autoscale scale in rule decreases the number of VMs by 4 if the CPU threshold is 30% or lower. The initial instance count is 4 and thus cannot be reduced to
0 as the minimum instances is set to 2. Instances are only added when the CPU threshold reaches 80%.

Got this question in AZ-303 beta. The Duration in minutes was mentioned in there as 5 minutes. Answer is 6 and 2.

Thank you. There is no default highlighted in Azure documentation. It seems everyone just assumed it is 5 mins or 10 mins. Question is missing this.

Since the default time is 10 so the correct answer should be 4,4

Agree with Redsal. default is 10 minutes and it also asks to specify while creating the VM Scale set. But the question don't have any details on the time. So, we have to go with default only. If we go with default, then the answer for 2 questions is 4 VM's only since it has not reached 10 minutes.

I don't see that the 10 minutes are default it is the duration been configured as per the requirement of the scenario "Let's create a rule that increases the number of VM instances in a scale set when the average CPU load is greater than 70% over a 10-minute period."

yeah i also agree... none of the scenarios are long enough to meet the default 10 minute check... so nothing changes! :)

answer will be 4,4 its specifically mentioned in the microsoft docs as " The amount of time monitored before the metric and threshold values are compared. Does not include cool down period." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machine-scale-sets/virtual-machine-scale-sets-autoscale-portal

Irrespective of default time, Box 2 will be 4. Scale in rule will run at 25% but it says reduce instance count by 4 which will make instance count 0 but minimum instance count is 2, so it won't do anything

I think that the answer is right: 6VM and 2 VM and the explanation is well to. I did it in lab and the option exist to configure the time, and this picture don't show it. The question mentioned 6 minutes, so we should assume 6 minutes was configured. I tested the way to customize the time of thresholds and change default values too: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/platform/autoscale-understanding-settings Besides that: INFO(Duration in minutes): This is amount of time that Autoscale engine will look back for metrics. For example, 10 minutes means that every time autoscale runs, it will query metrics for the past 10 minutes. This allows your metrics to stabilize and avoids reacting to transient spikes. The Storage queue Approximate Message Count and Service Bus Message Count metrics are special in that these metrics are point in time only and have no history. For these metrics, the duration field will be ignored by the Autoscale engine.

Please don't write just for the sake of writing. How you got 2 VM's, care to explain ?

For Azure Cloud Services and Azure Virtual Machines, the default period for the aggregation is 45 minutes, so it can take up to this period of time for the metric to trigger autoscaling in response to spikes in demand. You can change the aggregation period by using the SDK, but periods of less than 25 minutes may cause unpredictable results. For Web Apps, the averaging period is much shorter, allowing new instances to be available in about five minutes after a change to the average trigger measure.

Its mentioned at Six minutes and if we need to assume the 6 minutes is the interval but not 5 or 10 minutes default value. If we consider defaul then mentioned minutes has no effect...if we go with 6 minutes as interval then instance count 4 plus cpu crossed 80% make 6 as answer for 1st condition. Explanation provided below seem to be fine though i was confused with 2nd condition..it ran for less than 30% for 1st 6 minutes and then 50% and in this case do we need to reduce the VM as the question demand scale set running condition..rather than what was the VM when cpu at 25% rate ?

Cpu Threshould (%) is a metric Host Level EC2 instances, so by default monitoring is 5 minutes, so 6 and 2 is good answer!

Regarding to Box2, the point is "decreased by 4". It can't be decrease by 4 because initial number of VM is 4 and minimum number of VM is 2. It should be 4 VM. Duration time does not matter for Box2.

we should not assume that the defaults were taken. a number of people have posted and confirmed that the default duration is 5 or 10 minutes. Have they looked at the other defaults and compared with the question? For example, when creating a new VMSS in the portal, the default for CPU threshold scale out is 7. But in this question, the setting is 80. So why pick on one default and not recognise the other defaults. IMHO, the question mentioned 6 minutes, so we should assume 6 minutes was configured.

typo above "..the default for CPU threshold scale out is 7" should be read as "the default for CPU threshold scale out is 75".

There is no default time in Scale. It's just given minimal time. You configure it as you want.

There is no default value as such, the Scale out "Duration in Minutes" has to be a value between 5 to 60 minutes. Since it is shown here in the question, we should assume as minimum duration which is 5minutes and that explains the answers.

Hmmm... nothing about this question would lead me to assume min duration is 5 EXCEPT for the fact that they keep talking about 6 minutes all over the place.. but that is a weird cue.

Can you provide a link where it says the "Duration in Minutes" has to be a value between 5 to 60 minutes or it was something you found in labs

Very tricky ques, since duration time is not mentioned and default amount of time monitoring threshold values is 10 minutes and Since 6 minute time is mentioned here so correct ans is 4 and 4. i.e. Vm count will remain same, no changes.

Tricky question as the default Duration value not mentioned in the question. The page posted by andy0983011 is an example of 10 minutes. Scale set rule settings not posted in the question.
