This is specific to defender device groups so if a device is also matched to other groups, it's added only to the highest-ranked device group. If it was security groups in Entra ID, it would add the computer to all groups it matches. Make sure you read the question correctly.

Device groups in Microsoft Intune can be assigned priorities to determine the order in which policies are applied to devices. When a device is a member of multiple device groups, the policies from the highest-priority group are applied first, followed by the policies from the next highest-priority group, and so on.
