With daily backup at 6:00 pm, it is acceptable to lose the data up to a day old. you will lose no more than 1 days data. RPO should be 1 day

I think MAXIMUM RPO is 1 day, and min is 1 hour. Backup at 6pm, and crashed at 7pm, when recover we only lost 1 hour of data.

Regarding "Minimum RPO" the key here is "what's the minimum time you can count you have a VM Backup?", as you don't know which time of day your VM will fail. So, for design purposes, the configuration provides a Minimum RPO of 24 hours (1 day). If your VM fails some hours after the Backup was completed, you will gain a few hours on RPO. But you can't take that number as a design parameter.

thanks, maybe a general question and not relevant to give scenario (due to "minimum")

but 1 day is the maximum RPO? As you mentioned minimum can be as low as 10 sec if vm fail immediately after backup. I'm very confused.

yes 1 hour is minimum in the list (maybe less but unlisted in answer options). 1 day is maximum data lost

the question is minimum RPO. In this case from the suggested answers I would choose 1 hour. E.g VM has backup on saturday at 6am. When VM crashes at 7pm, then we lost only one hour data.

Daily backup at 6 pm means one can lose data upto 24 hours before carver and hence 24 hours is the correct answer for Question 2.

Why is RPO in response 1 day? If the backup is done at 6PM and the recovery is done next morning, there wouldn't be 1 day between backup and time of recovery, but much less in terms of business hours, correct? Or am I missing something?

i think your right, then it would be 1 hour, 1 minute, 6 minutes etc. so i think, with "minimum" they mean "no more than".

we also don't know what the operating hours are for this company, they could be 24/7 for all we know.

RPO is an objective this means "maximum" and you use RPO/RTO in your SLA/OLA. In this case daily BU will help us to have RPO of "maximum" 1day (contract) but as you explain can be less (1s) but without contract with our business
