First is wrong. You can create many internal switches. Only external are limited because every of them needs one physical adapter Should be: First: private and internal Second: VSwitch2 and VSwitch3

Box 1: private and internal Agree, you can create many internal and private switches but and external one would need an additional network adapter Box 2: VSwitch2 and VSwitch3 A private switch does not provide networking between host and other virtual machines, thus a VM connected to a private switch cannot access network shares. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/plan/plan-hyper-v-networking-in-windows-server

On Server1, you can create additional private and internal virtual switches only. Server1 can access network shares on virtual machines that are connected to VSwitch2 or VSwitch3 only.

An external Switch is a conversion of a pnysical NIC into a virtual Switch, it allows VMs to go outside the boudaries of the physical host; An internal Switch will create a virtual NIC on the physical Host, thus Network communication between the host and the VMs is possible (File shares); Whereas a Private Switch will allow network communications only between the VMs that are attached to it. Be aware that creating an internal Switch might lead to a temporary network disruption, so do not do that remotely! Enjoy
