I agree to use Answer A. For the named platforms it must be authenticator app.

But you can't use the Authenticator app on Windows. The questions states that all devices must be supported. You can a FIDO2 USB device if you want to log in on all the devices in a Office app (such as Outlook Mobile).

Then again, the answer is talking about the app. if you have the app (regardless of where it is installed) you can use it for login. Same as the FIDO2 key. It's a separate piece of hardware outside of the OS. (same as a phone with app ;) )

I assume they mean that you can use the Microsoft Authenticator as a second factor for logging into Windows, Android and iOS - not necessarily that it runs on all these systems. Question 265/287 are similar. Q265 lists FIDO2 as well. My theory is that Q265 is older than Q287 and FIDO2 wasn't supported on Android/iOS then. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/authentication/concept-authentication-passwordless#microsoft-authenticator Users can sign in to any platform or browser by getting a notification to their phone https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/authentication/howto-authentication-passwordless-phone This authentication technology can be used on any device platform, including mobile.

here MS would be looking for the MS Solution, purely because FIDO2 is not as convenient as a mobile app. I think the MS answer is for the MS product guys don't over think it ;)

Microsoft Authenticator can be used to sign in to any Microsoft Entra account without using a password. Microsoft Authenticator uses key-based authentication to enable a user credential that is tied to a device, where the device uses a PIN or biometric. Windows Hello for Business uses a similar technology. This authentication technology can be used on any device platform, including mobile. This technology can also be used with any app or website that integrates with Microsoft Authentication Libraries (Microsoft)

My vote for A since this is a Microsoft technology and they would always use their own first. What is Passworless? => Passwordless authentication methods are more convenient because the password is removed and replaced with something you HAVE or something you are or know. Microsoft Authenticator: The Authenticator App turns any iOS or Android phone into a strong, passwordless credential. Users can sign in to ANY platform or browser by getting a notification to their phone, matching a number displayed on the screen to the one on their phone.

Copilot: Yes, FIDO2-compliant security keys are supported on both Android and iOS devices. Many security keys, such as the YubiKey 5 NFC, offer NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities, making them compatible with mobile devices

I think B is correct since there is no Authenticator app for Windows and the question states that the same method must be used on all platforms.
