YYY For almost all app types and platforms, Available assignments are only valid when assigning to user groups, not device groups. Assignment Types: Available for enrolled devices: Assign the app to groups of users who can install the app from the Company Portal app or website. Available with or without enrollment: Assign this app to groups of users whose devices are not enrolled with Intune. Users must be assigned an Intune license, see Intune Licenses. Required: The app is installed on devices in the selected groups. Some platforms may have additional prompts for the end user to acknowledge before app installation begins. I think it is No, No, YES. Apps 1 is in require mode, not available. It will not be in Company Portal. Word is installed first, but this type of install overwrittes the last one. So the next day Word will not be there because Inutne has uninstalled Word to install Excel instead.

N - if the app is deployed as required that will not show as available from company portal. Y - User1 is the owner of Device1 and word(app1) is deployed as required to Group 1 where the user is a member of. Y - Excel(App2) is deployed as required in Group2 where the Device 1 is a member of.

The show in company portal is not a setting you configure and its there to mislead. By default, if app is deployed available it will show to company portal.

I would also think like this: Y-N-Y 1) Y. All apps are marked "Yes" to be visible in Company Portal. 2) N. Word is App1 and App1 is marked required for Group 1 but Device 1 is Group2 3) Y. Straight Forward answer. Excel is marked required for Group 2 and Device is Group 2

YYY User Assignment: When you assign an app to a user, it will be available on all devices that the user signs into with their work or school account. Device Assignment: When you assign an app to a device, it will be available on that specific device, regardless of which user is signed in.

Y N Y First of all, there is no "Show in Company Portal" option. The only option is "Show as Featured App in Company Portal". If set to YES, the app will show up under "Featured app" category. By that logic - Y if you deploy 2 Office 365 for Windows 10 type packages to same computer, the newer one will remove & replace the previous one. in this case, the one with only Excel selected will get installed and Word will be replaced. However, if you add "Excel" into App1 or existing deployed Office package, it will add excel while retaining Word.

NYY You need to assign the app as available for it to show in the portal. It is not enough to just mark 'Show in Company Portal'.

I was a long time researching but could not find in black and white what I wanted. This device is personally owned, presumption according to the info "User 1 is the owner". I believe you cannot force a required app on a BYOD and would show in the company portal. For me it would be YNN, Excel should also not be installed. If someone is more familiar with such assignments, that would be great.

I found this: To deploy or assign apps to Windows devices, the Windows devices must be enrolled in Microsoft Intune. For any additional requirements, including supported app types, go to Windows 10/11 app deployment using Microsoft Intune. This means the device is enrolled, so the info about the user being the owner confused the matter. In this case what I am looking for is the understanding why one app is installed and not the other. some more info https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/apps/apps-windows-10-app-deploy. So now I would also say YYY like below

So the only difference between Word and Excel is that one app is assigned to the user and one to the device. An application assigned to a user will only install at logon, whereas the app assigned to the device will install anytime when connected.

So am still on this one, I have my test today and this one still bugs me. Been thinking long and hard and done lots of research. Basically we do not have enough information. What I have conluded, Word is assigned to a user group whereas Excel is assigned to a device group. Word will only install when a user logs on to the device. So if he has not signed in, yeah Word won't be installed, so a No could be correct.

I think the misleading part is: User1 is the owner of Device1. I doesn't say: User1 is logged on to Devices1 I would say: if the user is not logged in, word is not installed onto the device. Is my thinking farfetched?

For me it should be: YYY App1 shows in the company portal: Y (from table) Word is installed on Device1: Y - in general yes as app is required and assigned to group1 Excel is installed on Device1: Y - in general yes as app is required for group2 But we know nothing about device and user behaviour: is it Windows 10/11 device?, Is device online during this time?)
