NO - Since File3 has the extension “.xlsx” and is authored by “User3,” Search1 will not return File3. YES - File3 meets both criteria (authored by “User1” and has the extension “.xlsx”), so Search2 will return File3. Therefore, the answer is Yes. YES - Since File2 is authored by “User2,” it falls within the range specified in the query.

Keep in mind: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/ediscovery-keyword-queries-and-search-conditions Using quotes stops wild cards and any operations inside the quotes The Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT, and NEAR must be uppercase. A space between two keywords or two property:value expressions is the same as using OR

Max_DeJaV Info from the URL: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/ediscovery-keyword-queries-and-search-conditions Y - A space between two keywords or two property:value expressions is the same as using OR (both condition can be satisfied) N - Using quotes stops wild cards and any operations inside the quotes (The wildcard is inside the quote) + The Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT, and NEAR must be uppercase (the "and" is lowercase). N - use double quotation marks (" ") to search for an exact phrase or term (it will look for exact word "User1..3" and not the range)

No to ALL File3 is authored by User3, not User1. Quotes disable wildcard, so this looks for literal "User*" which does not match User1. This syntax is not supported in Microsoft Purview.

N N N, because quotes are used. Search1 only matches files by User1 with .xlsx extension (none exist). Search2 matches nothing because no author is literally "User*". Search3 matches nothing because no author is literally "User1..3".

YYN Search 1 will return both File 1 and File 3. Search 2 will return all Files. Search 3 will return no files, because it's invalid syntax.

A space between two keywords or two property:value expressions is the same as using OR. For example, from:"Sara Davis" subject:reorganization returns all messages sent by Sara Davis or messages that contain the word reorganization in the subject line. However, using a mix of spaces and OR conditionals in a single query may lead to unexpected results. We recommend using either spaces or OR in a single query. Using quotes stops wild cards and any operations inside the quotes. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/ediscovery-keyword-queries-and-search-conditions So, this is my understanding Search1 will return File3: Yes (due to the "OR" interpretation between conditions) Search2 will return File1: No (because the wildcard within quotes is treated as a literal) Search3 will return File2: No (because the range syntax is not standard and would not match typical author names)
