Your network contains an Active Directory domain named contoso.com.
You have a Group Policy object (GPO) named GPO1. GPO1 is linked to an organizational unit (OU) named OU1.
GPO1 contains several corporate desktop restrictions that apply to all computers.
You plan to deploy a printer to the computers in OU1.
You need to ensure that any user who signs in to a computer that runs Windows 10 in OU1 receives the new printer. All of the computers in OU1 must continue to apply the corporate desktop restrictions from GPO1.
What should you configure?

right , the answer B :: "a computer preference that uses item-level targeting" is correct. Answer D is incorrect, if a Windows 8 computer is residing in OU1, a WMI Filter prevents all settings to be applied from GPO1 to any Windows 8 computer, which violates the condition that this question explicitly mentioned "All of the computers in OU1 must continue to apply the corporate desktop restrictions from GPO1." Answer B uses Item Level Targeting to setup a printer, with Item Level Targeting, only the selected Preference item will be filtered for application to "Windows 10", other settings in GPO1 for OU1 will not be affected.

Shouldn't the correct answer be "B"a computer preference that uses item-level targeting? If no, why "D" ?

The answer is B. You can deploy the same printer with different setting, exemple, Default or Not, specify target groupe,.... in that same location, for Item-Level you can specify your setting. Check this link: https://www.policypak.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Targeting-Editor.png

You plan to deploy a printer to the computers in OU1. answer B - you have to deploy it before the user log in and then install after logon

Wouldn't WMI filtering be needed as 'computers with Win10' was specified?

The correct answer is the one listed (B). WMI filters are GPO-wide, if you apply a WMI filter that says only Win10 computers can get be affected, then all preferences included in that GPO will have to follow this filter. With Item Level Targeting though, you can filter a specific preference of a GPO. Since the question mentions GPO1 has multiple preferences, WMI filtering is wrong. https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/grouppolicy/2009/07/30/security-filtering-wmi-filtering-and-item-level-targeting-in-group-policy-preferences/

I'm going with B on this as well. If you only want the printer pushed out to users signing in to the Win 10 machine in OU1, wouldn't it make sense to apply it to the computer config? Why would you apply to the User Config when it only applies to them when they sign in to the OU1 machines?

I see it this way: "You need to ensure that any user (user preference\control panel settings\printers) who signs in to a computer that runs Windows 10 (common tab, item level targeting - operating system) in OU1 receives the new (update) printer." User Preference, that uses item level targeting Answer D makes sense

No, as it needs to apply to ANY user that signs-in. User preference would not apply to a local user signing in. Computer preference means that the setting is applied at start-up for the computer, and any user (domain or local) will receive the printer.

The answer is indeed D. To Clarify, Group Policy Configurations only apply to their Respective Objects based on their locations in Active Directory. This means, Computer Configurations apply only to Computers based on Computer Location in AD User Configurations apply only to Users based on User's Location in AD. (This, of course, assumes that Loopback Processing is not enabled.) If you want a Configuration to apply to Users, it must be a User Configuration.

However, it is certainly important to note: This question makes it appear that the Policy Configurations will be configured in GPO1, which is linked to OU1. OU1 contains only Computer Objects and a Printer Object; notably lacking any User Objects. Following the logic in my previous comment, if the User Configurations are being set in GPO1, linked to OU1, which contains NO User Objects, then for any of the settings to take effect to Users located in other OUs that are connecting to the Computers located in OU1, Loopback Processing MUST also be enabled.

D can only be true if the user accounts are also located in OU1. It's not clear from this question if this is the case.

User Preference applies to any User coming belongings to any OU, which is what you want; Computer preference applies only to machines in that particular OU1. The question is't very clear and lacks details, but I see why they chose "D".
