My answer is based on the model v4.0. It's optional in the Read model and enabled in the Contract model. I go for the contract model because of the minimize administrative effort. I will cost more to set it up from the start but since Read can't ensure the QR-reading but if the QR-read fails there will be manual labour fixing it, which can potentially be a lot of work.
