I Believe A is the answer: Application security group adding the ip address of the search servers will have administrative overhead when deploying new search servers.

I think that a ASG can only contain the APP itself and not the search servers itself. So I think B is the correct answer.

As long as the NIC is in the same VNet as the first NIC assigned to the ASG it can be from anything - a generic VM, an NVA, a search server etc. All these "servers" are running on VMs. Using an ASG here is the correct option
