The first answer should be Role(1) and Division(2) because we can see these columns have been selected on table Retired Roles. Second answer should be Inner join.

If you choose the column Role, it won't generate duplicates, since all the values are unique in Retired Roles table. I would select Role column and left join

Question is very vague. Specially if you can't see the full dataset. But with what we can see. Joining over "Role" is good, considering the fact that both tables don't have duplicates. But it will be good to have INNER JOIN, just to make sure if any role is missing in Retried Roles it should not create an null data.

The question doesn't make sense because the assumption is incorrect. The answer can be Left Join or Inner Join

How can a join ever remove duplicates at all? I dont understand this question.
