Y, Y, N. You can move App1 to node4 MANUALLY, as it is one of the possible nodes. If node3 fails, the app would failover to node4, however node4 is not on the preferred list so it would try failover to node1... But node1 is not a possible owner so it would choose the next possible AND preferred node, which is node2. And for the last qustion, the answer is implicit on the previous; App1 would remain on Node2, and would not failback to Node3 when it was repaired. I'm guessing the "Owner node: Node3" at the beggining of the question is just indicating the current owner, nothing else. EXCEPT FOR MANUAL MOVING, lesson to be taken here is first check Possible Owners, if it's not there, discard the node. Then you get only the POSSIBLE AND PREFFERRED so you know to which nodes an app would failover to. Ex: Node4 fails, Node1 discarded (not possible owner), Node2 possible and preferred. Node4 fails -> Failover to Node2 Happy studying!

My version is: Yes - you can move the resource to Node4, as it is listed as possible owner. No - If Node3 the owner (initial part of the question), it will hand it over to Node4. A bit confusing that the screenshot is showing Node2 as the owner node. Ref: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/troubleshoot/windows-server/high-availability/groups-fail-logic-three-more-cluster-node-members No - It would fail back to the most preferred Node. It would be Node1 however it is not listed as a possible owner, Node2 will be the next choice assuming it is available.

You can move App1 to Node4 manually. Yes The "Possible Owners" list in the Advanced Policies tab shows that Node4 is checked, indicating that Node4 is capable of hosting App1. Additionally, the General tab lists Node4 as a preferred owner (though it is the least preferred in the order: Node1, Node3, Node4). Since Node4 is a possible owner, you can manually move App1 to Node4, provided that the cluster policies and current node states (e.g., Node4 being online and operational) allow the move. Manual movement is supported by the cluster configuration.

2. If Node3 fails, App1 will fail over to Node2 automatically. No The Failover tab does not specify a direct failover target, such as Node2, for App1. The General tab shows that App1 is currently running on Node2, but the preferred owners are listed in the following order: Node1, Node3, and Node4. If Node3 fails while hosting App1, the cluster will attempt to fail over to the next available preferred owner based on this list. Since Node1 is the most preferred owner, the cluster would try to move App1 to Node1 if it is available, or to Node4 if Node1 is not available. There is no explicit indication in the configuration that Node2 is the automatic failover target for App1 when Node3 fails. Thus, automatic failover to Node2 is not guaranteed.

Correct me if i am wrong, but Node 1 is not selected as a possible owner. So if Node3 fails it can't move the resource to Node1, but to the next possible and preferred owner which is Node2. The question is a little bit confusing because it says Owner: Node3, however the first screenshot is showing that the App is running on Node2.

0/0 is not relevant as the radio button is clearly showing immediate failback. It won't failback because Node3 is not a preferred owner.

Who can explain this question? 1 N - why? 2 N because it will fail over to note1?(most preferred) 3 N because it will return back to note1? (most preferred)

I would say: Yes - you can move it to Node4, it is listed as a possible owner so nothing prevents it from moving across. Yes - Node1 is not a possible owner, the next possible owner available is Node2. No - Node3 is not selected as a preferred owner. Failback applies for owner nodes only.
