Exam MD-101 topic 5 question 15 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's MD-101
Question #: 15
Topic #: 5
[All MD-101 Questions]

Your company has a main office and six branch offices. The branch offices connect to the main office by using a WAN link. All offices have a local Internet connection and a Hyper-V host cluster.
The company has a Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager deployment. The main office is the primary site. Each branch office has a distribution point.
All computers that run Windows 10 are managed by using both Configuration Manager and Microsoft Intune.
You plan to deploy the latest build of Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus to all the computers.
You need to minimize the amount of network traffic on the company's Internet links for the planned deployment.
What should you include in the deployment plan?

  • A. From Intune, configure app assignments for the Office 365 ProPlus suite. In each office, copy the Office 365 distribution files to a Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) deployment share.
  • B. From Intune, configure app assignments for the Office 365 ProPlus suite. In each office, copy the Office 365 distribution files to a Configuration Manager distribution point.
  • C. From Endpoint Configuration Manager, create an application deployment. Copy the Office 365 distribution files to a Configuration Manager cloud distribution point.
  • D. From Endpoint Configuration Manager, create an application deployment. In each office, copy the Office 365 distribution files to a Configuration Manager distribution point.

Suggested Answer: D 🗳️
Deploy the Microsoft 365 Apps application in Configuration Manager.
After the files for the Microsoft 365 Apps application are copied to the appropriate distribution points, the next step is to deploy the application. When you deploy the application, you specify which computers or users get the application and when.
To deploy the application:
1. In the Configuration Manager console, choose Software Library > Application Management > Applications.
2. Select the Microsoft 365 Apps application, and then on the Home tab, in the Deployment group, choose Deploy.
3. Etc.
Note: If you use Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager to deploy software, such as Office, to users and computers in your organization, you can also use that existing Configuration Manager environment to deploy Microsoft 365 Apps. By using Configuration Manager, you can control which users and computers get
Microsoft 365 Apps, where they get the installation files from, and when the Microsoft 365 Apps installation occurs.

Answer is correct: Process 1. Create an application for Office 365 ProPlus in Configuration Manager 2. Create a deployment type for the Office 365 ProPlus application in Configuration Manager 3. Distribute the Office 365 ProPlus application to distribution points in Configuration Manager 4. Deploy the Office 365 ProPlus application in Configuration Manager ref: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/deploy-office-365-proplus-with-system-center-configuration-manager-2012r2#distribute-the-office-365-proplus-%20application-to-distribution-points-in-configuration-manager

And note the detail: It doesn't say that all the computers run Windows 10, but: all computers "that" run Windows 10 are managed by using both Configuration Manager and Microsoft Intune. We don't know if they have other computers, like Windows 8.1 for example. And we have to deploy Office 365 ProPlus to "all" the computers. To include "all" we can't use Intune at this point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the question state you should minimize the network links? Does uploading the files to all distribution points minimize the internet link?

You would only do this once. The various computers would then only download from the local distribution point. It seems to be a very old question

The DP's reside in each of the 6 branch offices that are connected using a WAN link. You are using the WAN link to the branch office to provision the DP, not the local internet links.

You should get it from somewhere. So it is passed to the distribution point once. They distribute among units under them. They can transfer installation during off hours or when network load is light. We have been doing this using SCCM for a long time.
