From Exchange Admin center you can create a DLP policy detecting PII in message content and block those messages. At the rules tab, configure "Block messages with sensitive information" and that's all. Already tested, this appears at the Exchange DLP policy: "Sent to scope Outside the organization If the message... Is sent to 'Outside the organization' and The message contains any of these sensitive information types: 'Australia Driver's License Number' Do the following... Notify the sender that the message can't be sent. Include the explanation 'Delivery not authorized, message refused' with status code '5.7.1'"

Agree, and the article referenced in the question still supports both methods so the answer is correct for now. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/compliance/how-dlp-works-between-admin-centers?view=o365-worldwide

Selected Answer: B
NO! Starting April 1, 2022, admins will no longer be able to make configuration changes to DLP policies in the classic Exchange admin center. Existing rules will continue to work as-is. Starting August 1, 2022, the DLP policy management experience in the classic Exchange admin center will be retired. Admins will still be able to view the associated rules in read-only mode using the mail flow rule (transport rule) experience. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/security-and-compliance/data-loss-prevention/data-loss-prevention

No longer valid: This feature has been discontinued. You can now create search and hold features on the eDiscovery page in the Microsoft 365 Compliance Center. As of August 31, 2021, we will begin redirecting all users to this new page. The ECP pages for this feature will be removed one month later. Previously, We can restrict sending document outside the organization was possible through DLP policy but as of now, we can create DLP by only through Compliance Center. whenever you try to Create DLP policy it will redirect you to Compliance center. so technically in my opinion answer should be ----------------> NO

I think Microsoft should consider excluding this type of questions. Every feature keeps on moving on other portals and keeping up to date is extremely difficult, even if someone administers 365 every day...

As of 12/7/2021 you can go to classic EAC and click on Data Loss Prevention and it redirects you to compliance.microsoft.com. Tricky.

June 2021 - you can create a DLP in EAC, but I believe you will have to have the old view. Answer appears to be correct...

You can create DLP in Classic EAC still but not in New EAC as functionality is moved to S&C center - You can now create a single DLP policy in the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center to protect content in SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange. Learn more

You can create DLP in EAC, but this is to be changed: "You can now create a single DLP policy in the Office 365 Security & Compliance Center to protect content in SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange". So it would go for "No" here (November 2020.)

Still in the Compliance area of the classic admin center, but it has a warning "DLP policy management will soon be retired from the Exchange admin center, so we recommend migrating these policies to the Microsoft 365 compliance center to extend protection beyond Exchange email to content in locations such as Teams, SharePoint, devices, and more. Migrate policies", This may be updated since last November - Today is 26Jan22
