Ok, think I've answered my own question here - there's a different policy for VMs and File Shares. File Shares is max 180 days, VMs is max of 99 years (you get a red exclamation mark when you attempt 100 years). Slightly misleading second answer area, it should state "in the backup policy for VMs..." - it also looks like you need separate policies for VMs and File Shares so I don't know how you can get away with just one. Answers for me: Top Box = Share1 only, Bottom Box = 99 years

In this scenario, there is no VM we only have file share to back up, so the backup policy is referred to share1.

In exam - Aug28, There was a option for 10 years also and I selected that .. not sure if it is the correct one but I passed :)

Just tested in labs, maximum time is 10 years. So 99 years is NOT a good answer.

About the question, there is no VM so Share1 is the only to be backed up.

first box: share1 only 2nd box: 99 years( he is asking for how long we can retain data so its 99 years. I tested in lab ) so I will go for 99 years.

Currently Backup for Azure File shares only offers the ability to retain your daily backups up to 120 days.

I think retention should should be maximum value below 10 years, that is 365 days. 10 years is maximum for file share, so 99 years in not valid.

99 years for VM's, but as in the current scenario we are actually discussing about a File Share, the answer is 10 years
