[All 70-778 Questions]

You have a Power BI Desktop project that uses DirectQuery to access an on-premises Microsoft SQL Server database.
From Power BI Desktop, you can query the database.
When you publish the Power BI Desktop project to the Power BI service, the visualizations cannot display the data.
What should you do to resolve the issue?

  • A. Locate the published dataset for the project in the Power BI service and configure the data source credentials.
  • B. Install the on-premises data gateway (personal mode) and republish the project.
  • C. Install the on-premises data gateway and configure a data source.
  • D. Configure a Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute connection between the on-premises network and the Power BI service.

My thoughts based on the tutorial: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-sql-tutorial Given: You have a Power BI Desktop project that uses DirectQuery to access an ON-PREMISES MICROSOFT SQL SERVER DATABASE From Power BI Desktop, you can query the database. Assumption: There is no reason to chose gateway (personal mode) and its limitations Solution: C. Install the on-premises data gateway and configure a data source. Reason: "Install an on-premises data gateway on the same local computer as SQL Server (in production, it would typically be a different computer)." ->https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-sql-tutorial ->Prerequisites

The correct answer is C. In Power BI Desktop, you connected directly to your on-premises SQL Server database, but the Power BI service requires a data gateway to act as a bridge between the cloud and your on-premises network.

If you use import instead of directquery, you would see visualization. But in case of directquery no any data is passed to service until we install data gateway

As you see in Tutorial, One of the prerequisites are "Install an on-premises data gateway on the same local computer as SQL Server " So I believe C is right answer

It is A. You can already query the database from Power BI desktop, so on-prem data gateway is already installed.

I think is A If the used data source doesn't need the On-premises data gateway (Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, or Redshift), you must provide credentials before the Power BI service shows the published report. Follow these instructions to provide the credentials

It says in the question that the data source is "on-premises Microsoft SQL Server database", which implies that the data is not in the internet and needs the on-premises data gateway.
