Exam AZ-103 topic 4 question 25 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's AZ-103
Question #: 25
Topic #: 4
[All AZ-103 Questions]

You have an Azure subscription named Subscription1. Subscription1 contains a virtual machine named VM1.
You have a computer named Computer1 that runs Windows 10. Computer1 is connected to the Internet.
You add a network interface named Interface1 to VM1 as shown in the exhibit. (Click the Exhibit tab.)

From Computer1, you attempt to connect to VM1 by using Remote Desktop, but the connection fails.
You need to establish a Remote Desktop connection to VM1.
What should you do first?

  • A. Change the priority of the RDP rule.
  • B. Attach a network interface.
  • C. Delete the DenyAllInBound rule.
  • D. Start VM1.
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D 🗳️
Incorrect Answers:
A: Rules are processed in priority order, with lower numbers processed before higher numbers, because lower numbers have higher priority. Once traffic matches a rule, processing stops. RDP already has the lowest number and thus the highest priority.
B: The network interface has already been added to VM.
C: The Outbound rules are fine.

D - is correct if the VM was started it would have shown the public IPv4 address. Since it's deallocated it shows just the name of the public IP resource.

D is the correct answer: In the exhibit you can see Public IP: vm1-ip, this means that the VM is powered off, once it is started the actual Public IP address is shown.

D is correct. If you look at the "Public IP" of the VM, it shows you the public IP name "VM1-ip". An IP gets allocated to VM only if its turned on. If VM was ON, then the Public IP would've been something like (say) "21.23.43.33".

When "Public IP" is text and not an IP address, that means the machine is off.Turn on the machine first.

The hint here is "you have managed to attached additional NIC interface". You cannot add NIC interface if VM is running. Of course after you add additional NIC interface you have to turn ON the VM.

I tested this, I had a VM and turned it off, then I could not RDP to it. :-) Must be D - I could not believe it either. Try it...

The question says that a network interface was attached to VM1. To do so, the VM must be powered off. That's where we deduce the VM is still powered off by the time of the RDP connection.

D- is the correct answer, the public IP only gets registered when you start the VM. So that you can connect from outside using public IP.

Another tricky question. You need to read their diagram very carefully. Public IP is not displayed and Accelerated networking is disabled. Answer is correct (D). You need to start the VM.
