This one's contentious, it appears a couple of times later with different answers. I'm inclined to go with B understanding it as interoperability between applications but I'm not very sure about what some of the answers are trying to say.
San94, a virtual machine is just line any other machine, and all machines need to be updated accordingly, even if they are for like R&D and need to be deleted once tests are complete. You can go even a step further and create clones which need to be updated in a given fashion such as SYSPREP ensuring you are able to quickly deploy, test, and remove.
No, you have to update the host machine operating system as well as the virtual machine. That's CompTIA A+ core 1 knowledge.
