if a VM is attacked by ransomeware, will you be able to still RDP into it and run the powershell script to mount the snapshot from VM1?

Given answers are correct. 1. VM1 Only File Recovery of VM can be done in the same VM. See Item Level store in the below article. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/about-azure-vm-restore 2. A new Azure virtual machine only To Restore a VM, we can restore to a new VM only. (not existing VM) We can restore files/folders/disks to the same existing VM but not the entire VM. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-arm-restore-vms
