Yeah it could very well be firewall. Especially since the question does not mention anything about a domain.

What is an AD domain trust? Overview. An Active Directory trust (AD trust) is a method of connecting two distinct Active Directory domains (or forests) to allow users in one domain to authenticate against resources in the other. ... This is often called the "trusting" domain. What does a domain trust do? A trust relationship between two domains enables user accounts and global groups to be used in a domain other than the domain where the accounts are defined. ... This domain trusts another domain to authenticate users for them. The trusted domain. This domain authenticates users on behalf of (in trust for) another domain. Based on how the question makes no inference to anything discussed here, I say FIrewall.
