In the question, they did not mention that you own the Dynamics 365 instance ... You can have D365 in PaaS instance that has many other applications installed that you own and manage and the data as well. So answer is PaaS

as already mentioned, it has to be PaaS. The question indicates that you OWN the software. This does not apply to SaaS.
