I think the blob storage is 90 days.

The question and answers contain distractors: The question is how long the data will be stored in "blob" storage; NOT: how long the data will be available for SQL analytics; "indefinite" is the answer for blob storage; NOTE: The second part of the question, is related to the maximum "retention" for using SQL analytics.

"If you need to keep data longer than 730 days, you can use Continuous Export to copy it to a storage account during data ingestion." suggests it is not kept indefinitely in a storage account unless you use continuous export. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/app/data-retention-privacy#how-long-is-the-data-kept

But https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/reports-monitoring/quickstart-azure-monitor-route-logs-to-storage-account says After the categories have been selected, in the Retention days field, type in the number of days of retention you need of your log data. By default, this value is 0, which means that logs are retained in the storage account indefinitely.

Q1 is 90 days as the value explicitly set. Q2 should be 730 days. Raw data points (that is, items that you can query in Analytics and inspect in Search) are kept for up to 730 days. You can select a retention duration of 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 270, 365, 550 or 730 days. If you need to keep data longer than 730 days, you can use Continuous Export to copy it to a storage account during data ingestion. Archiving logs and metrics to an Azure storage account is useful for audit, static analysis, or backup. Compared to Azure Monitor Logs and a Log Analytics workspace, Azure storage is less expensive and logs can be kept there indefinitely.

SQLInsights: - Log sent to Log Analytics - Backup in Blob Storage (archive) Box1: asks for data backup as archive in Blob--> should be indefinite. Box2: ask for maximum amount of time data stored in Log Analytics in the context of question (if you don't delete it manually, how long it will be lasting until gone away). I don't think this is a tricky question and you don't need to remember 730 days to answer this question...)

Answers are 90 and 730 according to my tests via the Portal settings. If you leave the value of the item you wish to retain at 0, then it is forever. See below (directly from Azure Portal) "Retention only applies to storage account. Retention policy ranges from 1 to 365 days. If you do not want to apply any retention policy and retain data forever, set retention (days) to 0."

The blade in portal is very confusing here. I tested out this in the portal. It is only when you select archive to storage account that you get to set a data retention amount so the data retention values will apply to the archive blob storage and not to the log analytics workspace which has its own default data retention settings which you cant configure in this blade. Hence the answers are 90 days for blob storage and 730 for log analytics.

Sorry I had a mistake in my last comment for Question 2. Question clearly "in Azure LOG ANALYTIC". From Portal > Dashboard > Log Analytics workspaces > DefaultWorkspace-xxx > Usage and estimated costs > Data Retention (We can change retention untel 730 days) https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/sql-database/sql-database-metrics-diag-logging https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/platform/manage-cost-storage

Correction over Option 2) Correct answer is "Infinite". If you try to configure in Azure Portal > Dashboard > SQL databases > mySqlDbxxxxx - Diagnostic settings > SQLInsights > Retention (days) -> and push over (i), we have next: Retention (days) If you do not want to apply any retention policy and retain data forever, set retention (days) to 0. So, I think correct answer is "Indefine"

In the windows Diagnostics setting, we have: 1) Section where we defined destination of our logs -> (storage account, event hub, log analytics) 2) For Log Analytics we put the workspaces 3) And now, Check the box for each of the categories of data to send to the specified destinations. If you selected the option to Archive to a storage account, then you will also need to specify the retention period. Then: Option 1) The amount of time that SQLInsights data will be stored in BLOB STORAGE = 90 days (as we selected) https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/platform/diagnostic-settings Option 2) The maximun amount of time that SQLInsights data can be stored in Azure Log Analytics https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/canberrapfe/2017/01/25/change-oms-log-analytics-retention-period-in-the-azure-portal/

The maximum time it can be stored for is indefinite, if you set the slider to 0 then it's stored indefinite.
