D is not possible in Purview. A is possible but you would be blocking more than intended so you could spend more time allowing other subdomains. C seems best fit for least admin effort.

I'm unable to add web*.contoso.com to the list of service domains in the Endpoint DLP settings of my dev environment. I can type it in, click the + and click Save but it doesnt appear in the list, and I tried multiple times. I am able to add all other domain examples in the answers, but I suspect the correct answer is D, because *.contoso.com and contoso.com are pretty broad answers and would block anything on that domain so would be overkill.

I would agree with you, it saves us time when creating but I'd wager they are playing with the "overreaching" factor. Maybe web3.contoso.com is a supported website for upload documents and it would add administrative effort to correct the initial policy. The correct answer is C
