Question #: 85
Topic #: 1
[All 70-741 Questions]

Note: This question is part of a series of questions that present the same scenario. Each question in the series contains a unique solution. Determine whether the solution meets the stated goals.
Refer to exhibit:

Server1 has two virtual machines named VM1 and VM that run Windows Server 2016. VM1 connects to Private1. VM2 has two network adapters.
You need to ensure that VM1 connects to the corporate network by using NAT.
Solution: You connect VM2 to Private1 and External1. You install the Remote Access server on VM2, and you configure NAT in the Routing and Remote Access console. You configure VM1 to use VM2 as the default gateway.
Does this meet the goal?

  • A. Yes
  • B. No

im confused. why is nobody else picking up on the fact that is says PRIVATE switch? Nat has to be configured on an Internal switch. Private won't work. I think the answer is no.

Pay attention to the wording. You cannot use VM1 AND VM2 as the default gateway (Q.72), but you can use VM2 as the default gateway for VM1 (Q.85) Q.72 Configure VM1 and VM2 as the default gateway  No Q.85 Configure VM1 to use VM2 as the default gateway  Yes

2 possible NAT scenarios for VMs: VM2 connected to Pvt NW (same as VM1) as well as Ext NW. VM2 acts as Default Gateway and NAT for VM1. VM2 must have RRAS installed. VM1 connected to Int NW so it can talk to host. Server/Host acts as Default Gateway and NAT for VM1. Server/Host must have RRAS installed.

The server/Host doesn't have to have RRAS Installed.

#72 is not the same as this one. from #72 "You configure VM1 AND VM2 as the default gateway." This question #85 states "You configure VM1 TO USE VM2 as the default gateway."

the answer is right; you configure VM1 to use VM2 as the default gateway. the NAT requre remote access and Routing which you did configure on the VM2 so you can connect the VM1 to the VM2 then you will be able to access out of the private network using NAT

checked on another site and the answer is NO - because as stated earlier in other post about this series of question - the reasoning being you would not have both VM1 and VM2 as the default gateway. reading the question literally is very important.
