this question is vague and needs to be repurposed. Doesn't EXO use security groups based approve ACLs, but uses DGs to send email to. I know that some perms can be applied to DGs.

The question is specifically referring to Active Directory groups. Not Exchange or Exchange Online groups. When making groups in Active Directory, you have the option of creating a Security Group or a Distribution Group. The former is your standard group in AD (and also includes the functionality of the latter). The latter is solely used for e-mail distribution groups (presumably for Exchange or Exchange Online).
