Actual exam question from Microsoft's DA-100
Question #: 10
Topic #: 2
[All DA-100 Questions]

You are configuring a Microsoft Power BI data model to enable users to ask natural language questions by using Q&A.
You have a table named Customer that has the following measure.
Customer Count = DISTINCTCOUNT(Customer[CustomerID])
Users frequently refer to customers as subscribers.
You need to ensure that the users can get a useful result for "subscriber count" by using Q&A. The solution must minimize the size of the model.
What should you do?

  • A. Set Summarize By to None for the CustomerID column.
  • B. Add a synonym of "subscriber" to the Customer table.
  • C. Add a synonym of "subscriberID" to the CustomerID column.
  • D. Add a description of "subscriber count" to the Customer Count measure.

I asked ChatGPT and it says the answer is C. The reason for why it is not B: Option B is not the best choice because adding a synonym of "subscriber" to the Customer table would only help users in referring to the table itself using the term "subscriber." However, it does not provide a direct association to the specific measure "Customer Count" which users want to query as "subscriber count." On the other hand, option C allows users to associate the term "subscriber" with the CustomerID column, which is used in the measure "Customer Count." By adding a synonym of "subscriberID" to the CustomerID column, users can ask for "subscriber count" in Q&A, and the system will understand that it refers to the "Customer Count" measure, providing a more accurate and useful result.

Selected Answer: B
B. Add a synonym of "subscriber" to the Customer table. By adding a synonym of "subscriber" to the Customer table, users will be able to refer to customers as "subscribers" when using Q&A, without having to create a separate measure. This is a more efficient way to enable natural language questions and minimize the size of the data model. Setting Summarize By to None for the CustomerID column, adding a synonym of "subscriberID" to the CustomerID column, or adding a description of "subscriber count" to the Customer Count measure would not address the issue of users referring to customers as "subscribers" in Q&A.

B doesn't give distinct count and if I am having it as subscriber id, it is not returning any result for "subscriber" however it is giving the right (distinct count) result if I search as subscriber id

I tested, both B and C are giving results. However if we add synonym to the table level it is not giving the distinct count. If we add it to the Sub ID level its giving the desired result. SO C

can't be C, because the synonym must be "suscriber"
