Exam MS-203 topic 3 question 35 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's MS-203
Question #: 35
Topic #: 3
[All MS-203 Questions]

You have a hybrid deployment between a Microsoft Exchange Online tenant and an on-premises Exchange Server 2019 organization.
The tenant uses an email domain named @contoso.com.
You recently purchased an email domain named fabrikam.com.
You need to ensure that all the users in the tenant can receive email messages by using the @fabrikam.com email domain. The solution must ensure that the users can continue to receive email by using the @contoso.com email domain.
Which three actions should you perform? Each correct answer presents part of the solution.
NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.

  • A. From Azure AD Connect, add a domain for fabrikam.com.
  • B. From the on-premises Exchange admin center, modify the email address policy.
  • C. From the on-premises Exchange admin center, add an accepted domain for fabrikam.com.
  • D. From the Microsoft 365 admin center, verify the fabrikam.com email domain.
  • E. From Azure Cloud Shell, create a script that runs the Set-Mailbox cmdlet.
  • F. From the Microsoft 365 admin center, add the fabrikam.com email domain.
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: DEF 🗳️
Note that the question says, ג€ensure that all the users in the tenant can receive email messages by using the @fabrikam.com email domainג€. This means just the users with mailboxes hosted in Exchange Online and does not include the users with on-premises mailboxes.
F: the first step is to add the Fabrikam.com domain to Microsoft 365.
D: then you have to verify the domain (verify that you own the domain).
E: create a script that runs the Set-Mailbox cmdlet to add an @fabrikam.com email address to each mailbox.
If you also wanted users with on-premise mailboxes to receive @fabrikam.com emails, you would also need to perform the options given in answers B (modify the email address policy) and C (add an accepted domain).

BCD B: You need to set the email address policy to change the primary smtp address so it is the reply to address. C: The on-premise Exchange control the email address policy and hence the domain must be added there too. D: The MS365 domain must be verified before you can use it. Wrong: A: You cannot add a domain in Azure AD Connect. E: The PrimarySmtpAddress parameter specifies the primary return email address that's used for the recipient. You can't use the EmailAddresses and PrimarySmtpAddress parameters in the same command. If you set the EmailAddressPolicyEnabled parameter to $false, you can specify the primary address using the PrimarySmtpAddress parameter, but that means the email addresses of the mail user no longer automatically updated by email address policies. So using email address policy is definitely easier. F: Assuming that this is already done since the question is about changing the email primary smtp rather then the process of adding the domain.

Before you can create a email address policy, domain needs to be added as "accepted domain". Verifying domain means you need to add the domain, this is implicit. so answer is BCD

When you Add domain in Microsoft 365 it needs to be verified, once verified it is automatically added as Accepted.

In reality, 4 actions will be needed: BCDF, or - in correct order F,D,C,B https://www.inthecloud247.com/add-a-new-domain-to-an-existing-hybrid-exchange-configuration/ BDF won'f work at all. BCD presums that you have added the domain to MS365, which is highly speculative. The originally proposed resolition DEF is really dirty way to do that. You could potentially use for online mailboxes Set-Mailbox -EmailAddresses parameter to add manually the new domain as proxy address, but this is against the principles of Exchange hybrid deployment. I don't even know if this won't error out by EXO PS session. Even if not, what will happen on next scheduled AD Connect run?

Selected Answer: BCD
If tenant is on a Hybrid setup, recipient management should always be done on-premise, regardless of where the mailbox of the user is located as long as it is a synced user.

IT is FBD with this steps first add domain to o365 then verify then edit the email address policy. when you add domains to O365 by default they are added to accepted domains and when you run Hybrid configuration wizard by default it replicates accepted domains back to on prem https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/hybrid-configuration-wizard

sorry it is FDE correct answer because he wants only users online to use new domain while users on prem still use old domain so it will be done by script

This cannot be correct: "E. From Azure Cloud Shell, create a script that runs the Set-Mailbox cmdlet. " We are in hybrid - everything is managed from on premises, right? I cannot add emailaddresses in cloud for synced users.

I would never ever configure a company's environment the way this is lined out. This is why MS exams are out of touch with the real world.

B,D,F because email address attributes are synced from on premise therefore on premise email address policy needs updating.
