Selected Answer: C
C. Upgrade the existing on-premises environment to Dynamics AX 2012 R2. This is a correct answer because upgrading to Dynamics AX 2012 R2 is a prerequisite for migrating to Dynamics 365 Finance. You cannot migrate directly from Dynamics AX 2009 to Dynamics 365 Finance, because there are significant changes in the data model and the application architecture. You must first upgrade to Dynamics AX 2012 R2, and then use the Data migration tool (DMT) to migrate your data to Dynamics 365 Finance.

'Using the DMT is the only supported upgrade path from AX 2009. The DMT helps you find and fill gaps between the table schemas for each version, as well as helping you move your data.' https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/migration-upgrade/data-migration-tool So neither of these are the correct answer, albeit I'd argue that A is the least wrong.

This question is identical to Topic 1 Question 32 but in that case the only common answer is to upgrade to AX 2012 R2. I'm kinda guessing here but perhaps this route was the only available one at the point of the question being published. Now data migration can be performed directly from AX 2009. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/migration-upgrade/data-migration-tool

For me the answer should be A. The question is about data migration, and what should be done before we can start data migration. In my opinion first we should refactor/develop/customise (make it ready) the D365 FO instance, next we can use Data Migration Tool.

DMT or Data Migration Tool supports data migration from AX 2009 to D365, but full upgrade is not support that is code need to be refactored.
