You need to configure a cost group with the type set to "˜Direct Manufacturing'. This cost group can then be associated to the Nightshift cost category.
1. Navigate to Production control > Setup > Routes > Cost groups
2. Click the +New button to add a new cost group.
3. Give the cost group a name such as Nightshift.
4. Configure the cost group type to be Direct Manufacturing.
5. Configure the behavior to Fixed.
6. Go to the NightShift cost category.
7. Enter 1000 in the Cost Price field.
8. Select the Nightshift cost group in the Cost Group field.
9. Click Close to close the window.

The correct approach is to: - Select the night shift category - Click "Category setup" in the action pane, followed by "Price" - Create a new record, select a version. "Site" can be left empty, but entering a value allows you to create site-specific cost. - Enter the price, $1,000 in this case. - Before the cost price will take effect, you need to activate it. Click "Activate" in the action pane. Notice how the cost price as shown in the cost category is still $0 until the cost price version has been activated.

Why we need cost group here? I believe we just need to activate cost version for category so Cost Price value appears on Category screen.

Of course, Cost group is interesting (in particular to use costing sheets). But, in my opinion, this is not a mandatory step. You can directly put the price on the cost categories (via costing versions as always) and use it in the routes. As a result, I would skip the cost group step.

You can not enter a cost price directly in the Cost price field. Instead, we have to activate cost price using Costing version (by clicking the button "Price" in the action tab of Cost categories form
