Actual exam question from Microsoft's MS-203
Question #: 32
Topic #: 3
[All MS-203 Questions]

Your network contains an Active Directory domain named corp.contoso.com. The domain contains client computers that have Microsoft Office 365 Apps installed.
You have a hybrid deployment that contains a Microsoft Exchange Online tenant and an on-premises Exchange Server 2019 server named Server1.
All recipients use an email address suffix of @contoso.com.
You migrate all the Exchange Server recipients to Exchange Online, and then decommission Server1.
Users connected to the internal network report that they receive an Autodiscover error when they open Microsoft Outlook.
You need to ensure that all users can connect successfully to their mailbox by using Outlook.
Which two actions should you perform? Each correct answer presents a complete solution.
NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.

  • A. Add an accepted domain.
  • B. From the domain, modify the Autodiscover service connection point (SCP).
  • C. From the contoso.com DNS zone, modify the Autodiscover alias (CNAME) record.
  • D. Modify the name of the TLS certificate.
  • E. From the corp.contoso.com DNS zone, modify the Autodiscover host (A) record.

Answer B is correct because only domain joined computers are facing autodiscover problem. On internal network, only autodiscover SCP object created in AD is responsible to resolve autodiscover query. Although SCP object in AD should have gone after decommission of on-prem exchange server but if it not removed for some reason then autodiscover problem will occur domain joined users.

Correction - since we have to select two options then I will go with B and C Answer B and C are correct because only domain joined computers are facing autodiscover problem. On internal network, only autodiscover SCP object created in AD is responsible to resolve autodiscover query. Although SCP object in AD should have gone after decommission of on-prem exchange server but if it is not removed for some reason then autodiscover problem will occur for domain joined users.

If Server 1 was decomissioned you don't have any supported option to change the autodiscover SCP. Supposing that as part of the decomissioning the SCP was removed, i'll go with B and E

Correction. There's no reason for an autodiscover A record in corp.contoso.com. The only answers (but not completely correct) can be B and C.

Correct. The corp.contoso.com won't be hosting the autodiscover record. It just forwards the DNS queries to parent domain contoso.com which is a public domain. Although SCP should have got removed during decommission, there are no other best answers I could see...

From EX perspective you would think E immediately

Most companies have split DNS. There are several factors left out of the question that completely drives how this questions should be answered in the real world.

I would have thought BC. With primary email domain being contoso.com, it would look for SCP then Autodiscover name resolution in Contoso domain. It would also make sense to have an internal dns zone for contoso.com pointing to internal autodiscover?

BE should be the answer

BC A\D: This does not help. E: Users are connected to the internal network hence the internal DNS is the problem.

Sorry should be BE. corp.contoso.com is internal and contoso.com is external.
