Question #: 13
Topic #: 5
[All AZ-303 Questions]

You have an Azure subscription that contains 10 virtual machines.
You need to ensure that you receive an email message when any virtual machines are powered off, restarted, or deallocated.
What is the minimum number of rules and action groups that you require?

  • A. three rules and three action groups
  • B. one rule and one action group
  • C. three rules and one action group
  • D. one rule and three action groups
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: C 🗳️
We need a separate rule for each condition. We also need a separate action group for each action type that we want to fire when the rule is met.
In this scenario we have three conditions (when any virtual machines are powered off, restarted, or deallocated) and one action type (you are sent an email message).

Correct! You can define only one activity log signal per alert rule. To alert on more signals, create another alert rule.

Agreed, from here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/alerts/alerts-overview Here's how to create a new alert rule: Pick the target for the alert. Select ***the signal*** from the available signals for the target. Specify the logic to be applied to data from the signal.

You need to create three rules to monitor three states where as single action group is enough. You can re-use the same action group in multiple alerts. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/platform/alerts-action-rules C is the answer

disagree, minimum number of rules is one. We can define all 3 conditions in a single rule

Tried and this is not possible. Added an alert rule for "Power off virtual machine" then proceeded to add another condition but button is no longer clickable and info box displays "You can define only one activity log signal per alert rule. To alert on more signals, create another alert rule."

Logically, all three 3 status for virtual machine should be configured in a single rule but answer stated 3 separate rules (1 for each status). Surprised, if Azure rules are so basic and doesn't unify Boolean OR kind of rules! in my view, ans should be one rule one AG.

Milti-resource alerts is possible since there is no mention or region https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/monitor-at-scale-in-azure-monitor-with-multi-resource-metric-alerts/

It is multi-resource capabilities not multi-signal. You will still need three alert rules for each signal type and one action group. I've tested this.

Ans is wrong, you can set multiple condition in a single alert rule. Correct answer is B, one rule and one action group.

I get this error when I try: You can define only one activity log signal per alert rule. To alert on more signals, create another alert rule.

correct answer. Creating a resource-specific log alert: When you create your activity log alert, you select Activity Log for the signal type. You'll then see all the available alerts for the resource you select. The following screenshot shows all the administrative alerts for Azure VMs. In this example, an alert is triggered when a VM is powered off. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/learn/modules/incident-response-with-alerting-on-azure/6-activity-log-alerts
