Exam AZ-303 topic 1 question 9 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's AZ-303
Question #: 9
Topic #: 1
[All AZ-303 Questions]

You have a virtual network named VNet1 as shown in the exhibit. (Click the Exhibit tab.)

No devices are connected to VNet1.
You plan to peer VNet1 to another virtual network named VNet2. VNet2 has an address space of 10.2.0.0/16.
You need to create the peering.
What should you do first?

  • A. Configure a service endpoint on VNet2.
  • B. Add a gateway subnet to VNet1.
  • C. Create a subnet on VNet1 and VNet2.
  • D. Modify the address space of VNet1.
Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer: D 🗳️
The virtual networks you peer must have non-overlapping IP address spaces. The exhibit indicates that VNet1 has an address space of 10.2.0.0/16, which is the same as VNet2, and thus overlaps. We need to change the address space for VNet1.

In addition, the fact that the vnet does not contains any connected devices allows for the modification of the address space ;) D is indeed the correct answer

as i like to know why the other options are not correct, here is my take. gateways are no solution, they relate to connections with on-prem (vpn) adding subnets doesn’t solve the overlap problem. service endpoints are there to connect azure services to a vmet, not to connect vnets with each other.

You can't change an address space though after you create a VNET? So you would add a subnet on a different address space, D seems wrong to me.

The answer is correct, you can modify the address space before peering the vnet but cannot modify after peering the vnet.
