The given answer is Correct, you need to go to your hosting/domain registrar and add in a TXT record, I did this with GoDaddy and its work perfectly

It actually is MX (or else TXT which is not on the list): https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/fundamentals/add-custom-domain#verify-your-custom-domain-name

You can use either a TXT or MX record to verify the custom domain in the Azure AD https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/fundamentals/add-custom-domain

MX records can serve the purpose of TXT records. It also bothers me a bit, but they can.

I believe this is a wrong answer. It should be either srv record or A record. The MX record is for mail exchange record.

The right solution is here. Yes, this is true we need to create the MX record. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/fundamentals/add-custom-domain

Today is when i confirm that most ppl dont read well before commenting.. this question is the simplest of all. TXT fr verification and you mentioned A record i wonder how A record could be used as a means of verification.
