HOTSPOT -
You need to recommend an Azure Storage account configuration for two applications named Application1 and Application2. The configuration must meet the following requirements:
✑ Storage for Application1 must provide the highest possible transaction rates and the lowest possible latency.
✑ Storage for Application2 must provide the lowest possible storage costs per GB.
✑ Storage for both applications must be optimized for uploads and downloads.
✑ Storage for both applications must be available in an event of datacenter failure.
What should you recommend? To answer, select the appropriate options in the answer area.
NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.
Hot Area:

Show Suggested Answer Hide Answer
Suggested Answer:
Box 1: BloblBlobStorage with Premium performance and Zone-redundant storage (ZRS) replication.
BlockBlobStorage accounts: Storage accounts with premium performance characteristics for block blobs and append blobs. Recommended for scenarios with high transactions rates, or scenarios that use smaller objects or require consistently low storage latency.
Premium: optimized for high transaction rates and single-digit consistent storage latency.
Box 2: General purpose v2 with Standard performance..
General-purpose v2 accounts: Basic storage account type for blobs, files, queues, and tables. Recommended for most scenarios using Azure Storage.
Incorrect Answers:
✑ Locally redundant storage (LRS) copies your data synchronously three times within a single physical location in the primary region
✑ Standard: optimized for high capacity and high throughput
✑ General-purpose v1 accounts: Legacy account type for blobs, files, queues, and tables. Use general-purpose v2 accounts instead when possible.
✑ BlobStorage accounts: Legacy Blob-only storage accounts. Use general-purpose v2 accounts instead when possible.

What a stupid question! Do they really want us to know all the prizes from the calculator and the storage property combination possibilities? And then the glitchy calculator. What a waste of time! Memorize answer, next question.

And it only for they change again it in four months...or four weeks, or discover a new tier, or level and suddenly all of them are deprecated...

No, they want us to know that Blob Storage is legacy type, as well as GPv1.

First Box is correct Second box should be "Blob storage cool GRS" 1000gib $33.40 Average per month StorageV2 cool RA-GRS 1000gib $42.50 Average per month You can check the price here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/calculator/

For Application2 this looks correct, I also get those prices: $33.40 for BlobStorage-Standard-Cool-GRS $42.50 for GPV2-Standard-Cool-RA-GRS? https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/calculator/

Not sure how claudio82 is getting his numbers but I'm not seeing it that cheap. For me the prices are coming up the same so I would think we would want to go with the RA-GRS option. 58.10 per month - CentralUS Block blob storage Standard GPv2 RA-GRS Cool Tier 58.10 per month - CentralUS Block Blob storage type with Standard perf tier - Storage acct type: blob storage GRS, Access tier: cool

As per https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/common/storage-account-overview#legacy-storage-account-types standard blob storage is considered legacy so "Microsoft recommends using standard general-purpose v2 accounts instead when possible."

Microsoft recommends that, but it is not required. BlobStorage-Standard-Cool-GRS would be the cheaper option at $33.40 vs. $42.50 for GPV2-Standard-Cool-RA-GRS?

I'm getting the same numbers as claudio gets, however I'll not go for blob storage because it's considered legacy type.

I would go with D for second. As you have to do manual failover in case of GRS

2 and 1. ZRS and above only since it must satisfy DC failure. App1 need high transfer rate and low latency so this would mean it needs premium. V1 account would not make sense and premium is out because it needs to be low cost. Second box: Options 4 is $42.50 per month, Option 1 is $33.40 per month.

App1 is correct. App1 - First option is right. urability and availability by outage scenario The following table indicates whether your data is durable and available in a given scenario, depending on which type of redundancy is in effect for your storage account: DURABILITY AND AVAILABILITY BY OUTAGE SCENARIO Outage scenario LRS ZRS GRS/RA-GRS GZRS/RA-GZRS A node within a data center becomes unavailable Yes Yes Yes Yes An entire data center (zonal or non-zonal) becomes unavailable No Yes Yes1 Yes A region-wide outage occurs in the primary region No No Yes1 Yes1 Read access to the secondary region is available if the primary region becomes unavailable No No Yes (with RA-GRS) Yes (with RA-GZRS) --------------------------------------------- Zone-redundant storage (ZRS) and geo-zone-redundant storage (GZRS/RA-GZRS) are available only for standard general-purpose v2, premium block blobs, and premium file shares accounts in certain regions.

The redundancy requirement for both of the application is data must be available in an event of datacenter failure. ZRS will suffice the requirement of redundancy for scenarios requiring high availability. Data is copied synchronously across three Azure availability zones in the primary region. Azure block blob storage offers two different performance tiers: Premium: optimized for high transaction rates and single-digit consistent storage latency Standard: optimized for high capacity and high throughput The requirement for application1 is highest possible transaction rates and the lowest possible latency. So, it needs a premium storage. General Purpose v2 provides access to the latest Azure storage features, including Cool and Archive storage, with pricing optimized for the lowest GB storage prices. These accounts provide access to Block Blobs, Page Blobs, Files, and Queues. Recommended for most scenarios using Azure Storage. Answer is correct

there are two types of questions: 1. what should you recommend? 2. Does it meet the goal. This one is the "recommend" type. Therefore, v2 is better than blob. application 2 will be genv2, cool, ra-grs

Answer is correct as General purpose is recommended over Blob storage as per below. AZURE STORAGE PRICING SUMMARY General Purpose v1 enables access to Block Blobs, Page Blobs, Files, Queues, and Tables—offering our lowest transaction prices but with higher storage prices. General Purpose v1 accounts do not provide access to Cool and Archive storage. General Purpose v2 provides access to the latest Azure storage features, including Cool and Archive storage, with pricing optimized for the lowest GB storage prices. These accounts provide access to Block Blobs, Page Blobs, Files, and Queues. Blob Storage accounts provide access to the latest features, but not to Page Blobs, Files, Queues, or Tables. While there are price differences between General Purpose v2 and Blob Storage to consider, we recommend that most users use General Purpose v2. Premium Blob Storage provides access to block blobs and append blobs with pricing optimized for workloads with high transaction rates. Premium Blob Storage uses high-performance solid-state drives (SSD), designed to provide low and consistent latency for I/O-intensive workload.

Interesting as Prices for BLOCK BLOCK GPV2 and BLOB are the same storage cost. add in Writes etc, then GPV2 is currently coming out as slightly cheaper.

I think that for application 2 the RA-GRS options wouldn't be applicable, as the ability to upload would be lost if an AZ were to be fail. Of the two remaining answers, option 1 with blobstorage/standard performance looks to offer the lowest possible storage costs per GB.

With RA-GRS, you can still upload when an AZ fails. It fails over to the paired region. The paired region becomes the primary region. You can read and write to it. The RA in RA-GRS means you can read from the paired region even when there is no failure.
