Exam AZ-301 topic 4 question 3 discussion

Actual exam question from Microsoft's AZ-301
Question #: 3
Topic #: 4
[All AZ-301 Questions]

DRAG DROP -
Your company identifies the following business continuity and disaster recovery objectives for virtual machines that host sales, finance, and reporting applications in the company's on-premises data center:
✑ The finance application requires that data be retained for seven years. In the event of a disaster, the application must be able to run from Azure. The recovery time objective (RTO) is 10 minutes.
✑ The reporting application must be able to recover point-in-time data at a daily granularity. The RTO is eight hours.
✑ The sales application must be able to fail over to a second on-premises data center.
You need to recommend which Azure services meet the business continuity and disaster recovery objectives. The solution must minimize costs.
What should you recommend for each application? To answer, drag the appropriate services to the correct applications. Each service may be used once, more than once, or not at all. You may need to drag the split bar between panes or scroll to view content.
NOTE: Each correct selection is worth one point.

Totally agree: 1) SR only: requirement for app to run with RTO 10 min, no backup requirement 2) Finances: retain data for 7 years - backup, fail-over requirement - SR 3) Reporting: no failover requirement - no SR, daily granularity, RTO 8 hours - fits backup,

Is it possible to use ASR to fail over from on-premise to another data center on-premise?? Only then answer for Sales would be ASR .

Yes, it's one of it's fetaures, to orchestrate replication and failover between on-premises datacenter with no direct connection between them, i.e. over internet.

It was one of its features. According to these urls, this feature has been deprecated: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-to-site-deprecation and https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/vmware-physical-secondary-disaster-recovery#end-of-support-announcement. The only way to fail over between on prem datacenters would be indirectly: first fail over from primary on-prem datacenter to azure recovery site and then fail backup from azure to secondary on-prem datacenter (failing back to an alternate vCenter as described in point 9 in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/vmware-azure-reprotect). Probably too much complicated and as there is no RTO for sales, Azure backup only would be enough to recreate the environment in secondary datacenter. I don't really know what my answer would be if this question appears to me

I have an impression Backup RTO would be more than 8 hours but not sure. Any link against it please?

Site Recovery - RTO is upto 120 minutes, here it is 10 minutes, which may not be possible with ASR for Finance

So the correct answer is, Sales - ASR (Only failover requirement) Finance - Backup + Manual replication (ASR - Not guranteed RPO of 10 minutes, only 2 hours in guranteed) Reporting - ASR (Set RPO to 24 hours, RTO for ASR is guranteed not more than 2 hours)

I think the answers are shown in sequentially as the requirements: The equences of the requirements are finance, reporting and sales. The equences of the answers are "ASR and Backup", "Backup Only" and "ASR". So, the answers are correct.

ASR can fail over to a second on-premises. Anser: Sales - ASR Finance - ASR + Backup Reporting - Backup

My Anser is Sales:Backup Only Finance:Site Recovery and Backup Reporting: Backup Only. Azure Site Recovery cannot failover to the second On-premises datacenter. It can only do failover and failback to the original on-premise datacenter. Sales group have to use backup then copy them to the second on-prem DC.

ASR retention is in hours , if you want to retain data for years as stated then Azure Backup is the only solution

Looks wrong ... site recovery manager is for general replication and moving data between separate geographical locations. Microsoft position backup for fine-grained data recovery. E.g. Finance here needs site recover mgr. + backup
