You have deployed several GS-series virtual machines (VMs) in Microsoft Azure. You plan to deploy Microsoft SQL Server in an Always On Availability Group.
You expect to have less than 1 million IO transaction per month.
You need to recommend a storage solution for the SQL Servers. The solution must minimize costs.
Which storage option should you use?

  • A. Premium P10 disk storage
  • B. Premium P20 disk storage
  • C. Premium P30 disk storage
  • D. Standard locally redundant disk storage
  • E. Standard geo-redundant disk storage
  • F. Standard zone redundant blob storage
  • G. Standard locally redundant blob storage
  • H. Standard geo-redundant blob storage

The question also says: Solution must minimize costs. I thought the answer would be - E. Standard geo-redundant disk storage

I think even D, locally redundant disk storage. There's no requirement in the question for geo-redundancy and that could be achieved anyway if one of the VMs used in the AG was placed in a different region.

also there is AG, so 1 mln transactions/month will be at least doubled

It gets even cheaper if the databases are stored in "Standard locally redundant blob storage". So G might be right as well.

I think that’s not an option, because the question specifies that these are Azure VM that will be used for SQL Server. So locally redundant would not be applicable.

Nevermind. I guess I misunderstood the locally redundant option.

The answer is good, but not the maths... There is 3600 seconds in an hour and around 30 days in a month, but the formula forgot the 24 hours by day... So there is 3600 * 24 * 30 * 500 that are 1296 millions IO per month
