O365 installed from: CDN (default is optional if the source path is not specified) New updates will be available: as soon as the update is ready because Channel has been set to “Current”

To configure Office to receive updates from Configuration Manager use a text editor to modify the configuration file for the Office Deployment Tool. In the Add element, include the OfficeMgmtCOM attribute and set its value to True. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/manage-microsoft-365-apps-updates-configuration-manager#method-3-use-the-office-deployment-tool-to-enable-updates-from-configuration-manager

But does 'updates' configured to come from Configuration Manager include initial installation will also come from Configuration manager? I don't think it does, I think the initial installation will come from CDN...

For Configuration Manager to be able to manage Microsoft 365 Apps updates, an Office COM object needs to be enabled on the computer where Office is installed. Sounds to me like the initial installation is done via CDN still. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/office-deployment-tool-configuration-options#officemgmtcom-attribute-part-of-add-element

OfficeMgmtCOM=True, means updates are managed by ConfigMgr. The Channel is Current, which means as soon as the updates are available\deployed they will be installed. If ConfigMgr is used to service and install the app, then the source will be on a DP. The Path to the source doesn't need to be specified if the source in the the folder from where setup.exe is run.

For Configuration Manager to be able to manage Microsoft 365 Apps UPDATES , an Office COM object needs to be enabled on the computer where Office is installed. Not installation but UPDATES. In the question was asked about installation of the apps :) https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/office-deployment-tool-configuration-options#:~:text=OfficeMgmtCOM%20attribute%20(part,for%20client%20devices.

OfficeMgmtCOM="TRUE" is in place https://config.office.com and to see the difference btw CDN and Config Mgr 2. as soon as the update is ready, but on no set schedule. Channel="Current" https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/overview-update-channels#current-channel-overview

Exactly... Install From CDN: <Add OfficeClientEdition="64" Channel="Current"> Install From Local Source: <Add OfficeClientEdition="64" Channel="Current" SourcePath="\\server1\Office"> Install From MECM: <Add OfficeClientEdition="64" Channel="Current" OfficeMgmtCOM="TRUE"> 2nd answer is indeed 'as soon as the update is ready, but on no set schedule'

By default O365 installed from: CDN (default is optional if the source path is not specified). BUT in this case we use Configuration Manager ( SCCM ) so you need to copy source on DP ( distribution Point ). like i said before Installed from a CM DP : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/deploy-microsoft-365-apps-configuration-manager-2012r2 It's important that you don't include the SourcePath attribute in the Add section of your configuration.xml file. That's because Configuration Manager copies the installation files for an application into a folder under the Configuration Manager client cache folder "Current Channel : Provide your users with new Office features as soon as they are ready, but on no set schedule." You need to redeploy updates by updating DP on SCCM.

From Link:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/deploy-microsoft-365-apps-configuration-manager-2012r2 First -To get started, download the Office Deployment Tool from the Microsoft Download Center to a shared folder on your organization's network. But then: After you create the Microsoft 365 Apps application and configure its deployment type, the next step is to copy all the files needed by the application to the appropriate distribution points in your Configuration Manager environment.

There is no set schedule for these updates, but in general there are two or three releases each month, including one on the second Tuesday of the month.

Why CDN and not \\server1\office as it shows in the script?

Because in the script that is the logging location, not the location of the installation media.

We recommend Current Channel, because it provides your users with the newest Office features as soon as they are ready. Current Channel usually receives new features at least once a month, but there is no set schedule for when those updates are released. Current Channel also receives other updates during the month, which include security and non-security updates. There is no set schedule for these updates, but in general there are two or three releases each month, including one on the second Tuesday of the month.
