first box: 10 yeas second box: Exchange label policy reason: - explicit over implicit --> thus exchange label policy over default - retention wins over deletion --> thus 10 years - longest retention wins --> another argument for 10 years instead of moving to archive (explicit)

The 2nd one is an Exchange Label Policy. It publishes those labels to end users. It doesn't apply anything by default, hence there's no need for the explicit vs implicit argument. That argument come to play only on items that those labels get applied to.

I disagree, first one stays 2 years to the archive folder. as it is the default we are looking for, not one of the labels you provide for your users in the screenshot. Unless it is mentioned that one of them is applied the default remains 2 years to archival folder.

After 2y emails are moved to archive and retain for 8y+ (assuming the label was applied).

Why should we assume a label was applied when the question clearly states "By default"? I don't think we should assume. The default is for email s to be archive after 2 years.

This is so wrong. I'm sorry. But labels must be applied manually by the users.

guys, I have been working with exchange labels for years. Setup is - if u enable arhcive mailbox for user, the Default MRM policy is applied. Default MRM policy has default action - automatic move mail to online archive after reaches 2 years. If u want to change that, you need to create new retention tag, edit default MRM policy, delete default retention tag and select new one or just create new Exchange label policy choose your default retention tag and apply policy to users.

Outdated question. Microsoft recommends to retain and delete emails, we recommend you use Microsoft 365 retention policies and retention labels rather than the older messaging records management (MRM) from Exchange Online. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/compliance/set-up-an-archive-and-deletion-policy-for-mailboxes?view=o365-worldwide

-> Moved to the archive mailbox after two years, because is the default policy -> The default MRM: " you should continue using messaging records management to move messages to archive mailboxes." https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/security-and-compliance/messaging-records-management/messaging-records-management

For archive policies use MRM https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/compliance/set-up-an-archive-and-deletion-policy-for-mailboxes?view=o365-worldwide on Exchange Admin Center

I think default answer are correct. There is only one move policy. After 2 years it will be moved, Second is defiantly MRM. Microsoft recommends using retention policies and labels over MRM. However, mailbox archiving is only available in MRM.

Only the Default MRM policy applies in this scenario. The second part of the question says you PUBLISH the labels, but none is applied unless the users apply it to folders or individual emails. Answers are: Move to the archive after two years, Default MRM Policy. Just ingnore the labels, unless the scenario says "the user applied X label".

Adding to this, the label is in an Enabled (Pending) state which means the policy is still being deployed and not being enforced on content yet. Answers are Moved to the archive box after two years and

default is that user doesn't apply a special label to a mail(del2years or ret10 years). So default is move to archive 2 years.

Agree with olsi. first box: 10 yeas second box: Exchange label policy "When you have retention policies only: If a retention policy for a location is scoped to use an include configuration (such as specific users for Exchange email) that retention policy takes precedence over unscoped retention policies for the same location."
