Combine: It only appears in the case of the 'Folder' data source used to combine multiple files at one go; (it is the correct answer) Append: Used when data already reside in Power query editor Merge: It's simply a join operation on tables resides in Power query editor

For this question the goal is to minimise effort, so Get Data > Folder provides the option to Combine. You would need to >Transform Data, then Merge in Query Editor (i.e. more effort).

No. Merge is way different. Merge combines files when you need more columns. You are thinking Append. Use Append when you have the same columns and want to add rows.

Combine is used when using the Folder option to load all files in the folder. Append is used to combine/append already loaded files or availble queries in Query Editor.
